New comedy play on Sri Lankan politics
Udayasiri Wickramarathne’s latest play “Garu Katanayakathumani”, a comedy on contemporary political condition in the country, will be staged at 7 pm on September 29 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo.
Starring a Jayalal Rohana, Sulochana Weerasinghe, Sudarshana Bandara,Snajeewa Dissanayake, Mihiri Priyangani, Ishara Wickramasinge and number of others, the play is produced by Jude Srimal.
“To see a comedy in a theatre is an entertainment and a blissful experience. Yet the political condition in a country turning to be a comedy is a tragedy for everyone living in that country,” said Udayasiri speaking about his latest theatrical direction.
“We See that the people in this country are experiencing a political comedy. It is a responsibility of artistes to save ordinary people from this tragedy. “Garu Katanayakathumani” is an attempt towards this cause.
This is the latest theatrical production by Udayasiri Wickremanayake who earlier produced ‘’Suddek Oba Amathai’, ‘Rangapema Iwarai’, ‘Pem Yuwalak Onakara thibe’ ‘Thunsiya Heta’,
The show is organised by Jude Srimal and all seats are box planned and tickets are now available at the theatre gate.
