Sasindu and Shashikala make Makandura Vidyalaya proud
The duo from Makandura Vidyalaya, Matara Sasindu Sankalpa and Shashikala Dilshani stole the limelight, as the two schoolmates went on to claim the 14kilometre Boys and Girls races respectively at the Nestomalt All-Island Schools Sports Road Races, held at Giriulla last Saturday.
Sasindu Sankalpa finished ahead of K. Nishaban of Gamini Maha Vidyalaya, Ampara and Lahiru Rukshan of Natthawattha National School, who completed the 14km course at second and third respectively. Kavindu Chamika of Theraputtha National School finished behind at fourth, ahead of Keshaka Dilshan of Matara Central College.
The Girls 14km race was dominated by athletes from the South, as Hashini Madushika of Devapathiraja College, Ratgama and Hiruni Dilmini Sudusinghe of Narandeniya National School finished behind the winner, Shashikala Dilshani at second and third respectively. Dulakshi Chamodya of Dumbara Manana MV finished at fourth, ahead of Thakshila Dilrukshi of Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Ambagasduwa.
M.L.S. Wickramasinghe of Wekada Maha Vidyalaya, Yogiyana won the Boys 4kilometre race ahead of Sahan Devinda of Katukenda Sangabodhi MV, Maho and Chandima Shanuka of Presidents College, Ambagasdowa. Ayesh Viduranga of Presidents College, Ambagasdowa and Pasindu Prabash of Wangiyakumbura MMV finished at fourth and fifth positions.
Ayesha Sanduni of Ihala Kadigamuwa MV won the Girls 4kilometre race, finishing ahead of Tharindi Nethmina of Kuliyapitiya Central College and Rashmi Wickramasinghe of Vishakha Girls High School, Badulla. Asani Chathurika of Presidents College, Ambagasdowa and Imanki Shalika of Galgamuwa MV, Alawwa were placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Presidents College, Ambagasdowa were adjudged the Overall Team Champions of the All-Island Schools Games Road Race competitions.
