Two-piano recital in aid of CFS Prithipura Home
View(s):Two talented and versatile pianists, Ramya de Livera Perera and Soundarie David Rodrigo, will perform a variety of works ranging from classical, jazz to fusion at a two-piano recital in aid of the Ceylon Fellowship of Service, Prithipura Home in Wattala, on October 10 at the Lionel Wendt at 7 p.m.
Ravibandhu Vidyapathy
Well-known dancer, drummer and percussionist Kala Keerthi Ravibandhu Vidyapathy, will be special guest performer at this fundraiser event.
The programme includes a sonata for two pianos by Mozart, Dave Brubeck’s ballad on a jazz theme and a medley of Walt Disney waltzes from the movies arranged by Greg Anderson.
A senior member of the Sri Lanka Symphony Orchestra and of the Colombo Music Chamber Society, Ramya performs regularly with Soundarie David Rodrigo, covering a wide repertoire by classical composers and arrangements on popular themes.
Soundarie David Rodrigo
At a young age, Ramya won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy in the United Kingdom and in 2002 was awarded honorary membership of the Academy for her commitment and education to high standards in teaching and performing. In 2016, Ramya was awarded the Lylie Godridge Memorial Award for her contribution in western classical music.
Soundarie David Rodrigo pursued her musical education at the Royal College of Music in London, specialising in piano performance and piano accompaniment. As a soloist, Soundarie has performed locally and internationally. She is sought-after as an accompanist and enjoys collaborating with local and foreign artists. Soundarie is the Founder and Director of the award winning female choir “Soul Sounds”.
Ravibandu hails from a line of traditional dancers and temple painters. He has learnt dancing from Chitrasena and Vajira and drumming from Piyasara and Punchiguru, He is an internationally recognised percussionist equally good on Pakhavaj and Tabla as on the Gatabera. He has shared the stage with world famous drummers such as Billy Cobham and Zakir Hussein.
CFS Prithipura Home provides a safe environment from childhood onwards for mentally and physically differently able males and females and currently houses 66 residents ranging from 14 to 60 years. The residents come from poor homes where their families are unwilling or economically unable to look after them. Some were abandoned at birth and ended up at the Home on the orders of the Courts and others where their parents and siblings simply do not know how to care for and interact with a differently abled child.

As a non-profit organisation, CFS Prithipura Home looks to the community for support. State funding offsets only a small part of the cost of caring for residents, therefore private donations are essential. The Home receives contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations while donations of dry rations and food, sponsoring a resident, sponsoring a meal and fund raising are other ways to help the Home to continue its work. Volunteers are always welcome to contribute their time and services to the Home.
