Sandathanna (Moon plains)
Interested in sceneries on top of mountains? Enjoy the vision while being on top of a hill, surrounded by many other mountains? Do you wish to capture the wonderful sights on your camera?
Well, ‘Sandathanna’ is a good place for you. Situated in the cold climatic region of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka, this is a simple, yet breathtaking place for someone who enjoys views from a higher level above ground.
The journey to the final destination in this tour is… well, bumpy. The path is full of bumps and even puddles when it is rainy. We have to travel by jeep. It is a hard time when two jeeps meet, travelling in opposite directions; the road is quite narrow!
However, it is a very exciting and amazing trip, as the surrounding is so beautiful.
There aren’t huge forests, sadly, as the whole place is used for agricultural purposes. Cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes and many other vegetable patches could be seen.
At the final destination,
things change. The surroundings
become more spectacular,
as we reach the
highest peak of the whole journey. There are mountains and forests to be seen,
and the town of
‘Little England’
(Nuwara Eliya) could be viewed. Huge
buildings and houses appear to be tiny dots and forests could be seen as clumps of green bushes. Clouds
appear to float over mountains, and the
stunning view is
beyond compare.
If you are lucky, you would be able to have a glimpse of some animals, or see some footprints, such as that of deer and rabbits. You’d better pack up a jersey, because
it can end up being cold when the
evening approaches.
So if you wish to capture some photos of such scenery, or spend a scenic and wonderful time with your friends and family; grab your camera and some snacks, and head towards Sandathanna.
