Pre-quarter finalists found
Action between St. Peter' and St. Joseph Vaz
Christ Church College Matale and Seethadevi Balika Vidyalaya Kandy advanced to the pre-quarter finals on day one of the Royal Blue and Gold Hockey Sevens tournament worked off yesterday at Royal College grounds after victories with higher margins.
Christ Church defeated St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena by 8-0, while Seethadevi outclassed Ananda Balika, Kotte by 6-0 in their respective Group matches in the 17th edition of the tournament.
Christ Church won against Mahinda College, Galle by 4-0 and drew 1 all with S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia.
Seethadevi won against Sirimavo by 3-0 and Sangamitta College, Galle by 4-0 to become the Group champions in Group P.
In other games, defending champions Nalanda College won against Vijaya College, Matale and Isipathana College by 1-0 each, while they drew 1 all with President’s College and nil all with Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya, Gamapaha.
The tournament, sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka PLC with the participation of 55 teams this year including two teams from Royal College namely ‘Blue’ and ‘Gold’.
It will see 16 teams each in boys and girls categories vying for the prestigious Singer Blue and Gold Hockey Championship in three trophies in Cup, Bowl and Plate Championship in the two-day competition.
Twenty girls schools across the island are participating. It’s notable that the defending champions Musaeus College have not fielded their team this year.
The following teams have been qualified for the pre-quarter finals to be played today (Sunday) at the same venue.

- Girls: Visakha, Ladies, Sirimavo, Bishop’s, Yasodhara, Seetha Devi GS, Girls High School, Holy Family Convent, Swarnamali BV, Pushpadana BV, Rathnavali, St. Anthony’s GS, Sumangala Balika, Janadhipathi BV, Panadura Balika and Vihara Maha Devi BV.
