Bangladesh ‘A’ skipper Monimul Haque led from the front to help his side make a bold reply of 283 for 6 against host Sri Lanka A’s score of 268 on day two of the second unofficial Test match played at the Sooriyawewa Stadium.

Haque made a top score of 117 off 190 balls including 15 boundaries and a six and was supported by Shadman Isam making a well composed half century (77 off 104) inclusive of eight boundaries and a six.

The pair came to the rescue when they were in a spot of bother losing two wickets early in the innings for 22  runs. They put on a valuable partnership of 154 runs for the third wicket.

Haque was involved in two other brief partnerships that of 29 runs for the fourth wicket with Mohomed Mithun and 40 runs for the sixth wicket with Nururi Hasan before being dismissed by Mohamed Shiraz. Shiraz was Sri Lanka’s pick of the bowlers claiming three for 56 runs while Prabath Jayasuriya claimed two for 87 runs. Earlier in the day Sri Lanka A resuming from their overnight score of 223 for 5, were not able to make any progress. Apart from overnight batsman Charith Asalanka who made 44 and Lahiru Udara (20), they lost their wickets at regular intervals and in the process lost their remaining five wickets for the addition of only 45 runs to get bowled out for 268 runs.

Right arm spinner Mehidy Hasan did the damage claiming four of the five wickets that fell on day to finish with magnificent figures of 7 for 84. The match will be continued today.
