Turning heads with her talent
View(s):In a world full of budding musicians, Ashanya Premadasa is turning heads with her display of talent at a very young age. Ashanya, who is turning 16 this year, is a student at Ashanthi’s School Of Music.
“I’ve been singing since the age of 5” Ashanya shared with us. “Singing has always been something I loved to do since I was small. And my mom saw I had a talent when it came to singing.”
And thus began Ashanya’s education with Prashalini Peiris. Once she was old enough she was enrolled at Ashanthi’s School Of Music. Ashanya says she’s blessed and honoured to train under an amazing teacher like Ms. Ashanthi.
Growing up in a musical family, Ashanya remembers that at any given time in the car or house, there was music playing somewhere. As a kid, she used to hum and put on small musical concerts for her friends and family. “They had no choice but to watch me!” she says.
Ashanya says her mom also loved to sing and has a beautiful voice, but it’ll always remain at home. And so she pursues a musical path for both of them.
Ashanya’s first performances was organised by Prashalini Peiris she sang a solo. Since then, she has performed at a few concerts and competitions at Ashanthi’s School of Music and won places. Her performance at ‘ASM Got Talent’ won her first place.
At age 13 she participated in Chokolaate Magazine Centerstage, and won third place, becoming the youngest competitor ever to win a place at Centerstage. Ashanya is participating this year as well.
While being extremely happy with what she has achieved through music, Ashanya says she definitely has to work harder and improve in order to achieve her dream of becoming a professional singer and sing internationally someday.
Speaking about her own musical tastes, she says she’s more into R&B and hip hop, and ‘any kind of music style which gets me off my feet’
Ashanya plans to study more about music and enter a performing arts school someday, and hopes to pursue a career in music in the future.
