Welimada Educational Zone secures overall title
At the ‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2019’ series, Uva Provincial School Games edition which concluded recently, athletes representing the Welimada Educational Zone clinched the overall championship. Athletes from the Thanamalwila Educational Zone were the runners-up and the Bandarawela Educational Zone was placed third.
The Uva Games showcased impressive performances by the athletes with 32 new meet records being established. The Most Talented Sportsman award was presented to R.P. Shanilka Ayesh representing Seevali Maha Vidyalaya, Bandarawela while the Most Talented Sportswoman was awarded to H.A. Himanjana from Vishaka Girls high school, Bandarawela.
At the Samaposha Uva Provincial School Games, 3565 young athletes from 470 schools participated in 116 events. The Samaposha Games which began with the first meet from 8-11 July, ended with Uva School Games on 31 July at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla.
The Uva Provincial School Games was also the finale and culmination of the extremely successful ‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2019’ series of separate sports meets that were held in similar manner in the North-Central, Eastern and North Western provinces powered by CBL Samaposha, organised in collaboration with the Educational Zonal Offices.
Expressing his views, the Uva Provincial School Games, Channa Karunasena, Assistant Director, Uva Provincial Department of Education said, “Due to Samaposha’s generous sponsorship we have been able to successfully complete this sports meet.Our gratitude to Samaposha for conducting this activity and providing our children the strength, helping them progress from grassroots’ to national competition levels.”
Jayanga Perera, General Manager, Marketing, CBL Food Cluster who presented the prizes to the winners commented on the series of School Games said, “To build a healthy and nourished future generation, Samaposha which is manufactured from four locally sourced grains such as corn, rice, soya and green gram and has earned international accolades as an ideal food source for nutrition. Through this we are able to ensure our young athletes are powered and our younger generation receives the nutrition and strength needed. As a local entity we have organised these School Games to strengthen and uplift the sporting standards of our sportsmen and women to international levels.”

Today’s conclusion of the ‘Samaposha Provincial School Games 2019’ series is another successful accomplishment.
