Foundation Stone laid for the new Malabe Campus of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
View(s):Monday, 30th September 2019 marked an important day in the history of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon as the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the Proposed Building of the Institute’s Malabe Campus was held at Halbarawa Gardens, Chandrika Kumarathunga Mawatha, Malabe.
The ceremony began with the President of the Institute, Prof. (Mrs.) Priyani A Paranagama, welcoming the gathering which consisted of embassy representatives, ministry officials, university academics, industry experts, members of the Institute and students of the College of Chemical Sciences. The foundation stones for the new building were laid by the President, Prof. Paranagama, the Dean of the College, Prof. (Mrs.) Sagarika Ekanayake and the Immediate Past President, Prof. Sudantha Liyanage. The ceremonial plaque was unveiled by Prof. Liyanage along with Prof. S P Deraniyagala, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute. Eight memorial trees were also planted to mark the ceremony which is sure to go down in the history of the Institute as the day on which an enormous stride towards greater success was made.
The construction work for the new building which will accommodate lecture halls, laboratory and library facilities, instrument centers and administrative offices of the Institute is expected to begin before long. The photographs of some of the highlights of the ceremony are attached below.
