It’s ‘business as usual’ at State Universities
View(s):Academic activities at State Universities islandwide returned to normal this week, after their non-academic staff called off their strike and returned to work. Several universities have already recommenced classes, while postponed exams too are being rescheduled.
Most fee levying courses conducted by State universities will also commence during the weekend.
Universities have been putting out public notices from the moment the strike was called off, notifying students on the dates that academic activities will recommence and also issuing revised exam timetables.
Unions representing non-academic staff called off their strike last Friday, after 33 days, when work at all State-run universities came to a standstill, as a result of the strike.
Though the strike has now ended and university activities are returning to normal, Unions have warned that they had only called a temporary halt to their TU action, and would not hesitate to recommence it once more early next month, if the authorities fail to address their issues within the one month period given to resolve the matter.
The strike was launched on September 10 over what the unions called a longstanding salary anomaly issue. (SJ)
