The Ministry of Education (MoE) intends to have all Sinhala and Tamil Literary works of Sri Lankan authors translated into Tamil and Sinhala respectively.

Accordingly, the Library & Documentation Services Board has been directed translate all books written in Sinhala to Tamil and vice-a-versa. It is believed that, this will enable Sinhala and Tamil readers to understand one another’s attitudes.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that, at present, all Tamil books found in bookshops have been written in India, while local writers have been sidetracked by Indian publications.

To facilitate Tamil authors to publish their books in Tamil Language in Sri Lanka, is also being looked at.
