Suraksha Insurance paid Rs 1,588m to 35,000 students in last 10 months
View(s):The Ministry of Education (MoE) said last week that 35,000 students had benefited from the Suraksha Insurance Scheme (SIS) in the last 10 months.
SIS, which came into effect from December 1, 2018, has paid out Rs. 1,588 million to students and parents of schoolchildren, including 4,800 applications concerning deaths of students, parents and guardians.
The MoE, in agreement with Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd, provides benefits for the 4.5 million schoolchildren islandwide, between the ages of 5 and 21 years, attending government schools, aided and unaided government approved schools, pirivena schools, special educational institutions and international schools, for hospitalisation for prolonged or critical illnessess aids and appliances and permanent disability. A sum of Rs. 200,000 is provided in case of accidental death of a student and Rs. 150,000 in the event of the death of a parent or guardian.
The MoE said that students students/parents facing difficulties in obtaining payments under SIS, should contact 0112 369 369 / 0113 641 555 / 0112 784 872 for assistance.
