Tourism gears for string of promos
The tourism industry is readying with a number of promotions to be carried out in a line-up of 12 markets that would ensure all 22 activities be aggressively executed by January.
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Kishu Gomes told the Business Times that by January all 22 activities in the 12 countries will be implemented.
He noted that currently some are with the procurement process and the Terms of Reference on development level in respect of a number of other activities to be activated in the respective markets.
Out of 22 activities the board needs to approve only three more, he noted adding that they have lined up advertising in cinemas for the first time in India as most of the population there are film goers.
Mr. Gomes also explained that the promotion bureau will be carrying out a stringent look back on the promotion efforts carried out and ensure a strategic proposal would be established to implement the goals for next year.
In this respect, Mr. Gomes explained they have been carrying out a review of the success and failure of strategy and action plan implemented in the past in a bid to understand what works and what does not.
In addition a study of the market dynamics of each target market both current and new ones would be undertaken so as to have an understanding of the consumer, the competition, market trends to make fact based decisions.
Moreover, they would be presenting and discussing with the internal team or teams for further input and feedback that would ensure a collective knowledge and sharing of best practices is carried out.
A presentation of individual plans and deliberation with the bureau’s directors for inputs and consensus will be taken up for further development and budget allocations.
A further engagement will be held with the industry to incorporate its idea to draw from the industry experience to meet their expectations, he said.
Mr. Gomes pointed out a further refining of the proposals would be presented to the board to obtain necessary approvals for implementation.
Subsequently from January the bureau would seek to implement, assess, review, adjust where necessary to shape and reshape strategy and action plan to stay on course.
Finally the achievement of the goals of 2020 would be carried out to deliver the promise made.
