In an effort to popularise writing books, the Central Province Education Department with the collaboration of the University of Peradeniya (UoP) exhibited 5,373 books from 370 schools, written by students from Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, at the UoP Gymnasium, with Prof J.B. Dissanayake as the Chief Guest.

Central Province Governor Keerthi Tennakoon and the Chief Guest were conducted into the Gymnasium in a procession by the student-authors carrying their books.
Later, Prof J.B. Dissanayake read a declaration presented by the students. He said this is a laudable effort by the Provincial Education Department and the UoK to facilitate students and those who graduate from the University, to write books on subjects of their choice.
