Why the Asus VA24EHE should be your next monitor
Monitors are an often overlooked component when purchasing a PC. People are usually just satisfied with a screen that is big enough to watch movies and pay little to no attention to anything else.
In reality, though, there are a number of elements that you should pay attention to when purchasing a monitor. Ticking off all these elements is what the Asus VA24EHE monitor aims to do.
Starting things off, the Asus VA24EHE is a 24” Full HD Monitor. This essentially means all your HD (High Definition) content will look just the way it’s supposed to when played back on this monitor. Adding to that, the display panel uses IPS (In-plane switching) technology. Compared to regular TN panels, an IPS display gives you much more color vibrance and brightness. This translates to almost perfect blacks and true to life colors along with vivid image quality. The VA24EHE also provides a 178-degree viewing angle so the image will always look the same, no matter what angle you look at it from. That’s not all though. Asus pulled out all the stops with the VA24EHE. It features TÜV Rheinland-certified Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies to ensure a comfortable viewing experience. This means lower chances of you getting eye fatigue if you have to look at the screen for extended periods of time. This could be whether you’re going through multiple pages or documents or if you’re gaming.
Speaking of gaming, the Asus VA24EHE is one of the first models to feature Adaptive-sync technology. This aims to do away with screen tearing and choppy frame rates and gives you smooth gameplay and video playback. If you are a gamer, you obviously know that the smoother your game is, the better it looks and the easier it is to play. While most gaming-grade monitors feature high refresh rates such as 120Hz, 144Hz or even 240Hz, they are also quite expensive.
The Asus VA24EHE’s adaptive sync of 75Hz means that it has a higher refresh rate than regular 60Hz displays.
Adaptive sync has the ability to synchronize your monitor’s refresh rate with the FPS (frames per second) provided by your graphics card thus eliminating tearing and stuttering. It also adds more fluidity. For example, if the game you’re playing gives you around 48-55 frames per second, Adaptive-sync will make you feel like you’re playing the game at closer to 75FPS, giving it a much smoother feeling. To a gamer on a budget, this is a dream come true. The adaptive sync on the VA24EHE meets the requirements of both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync for maximum compatibility across both GPU manufacturers.
Taking a look inside the packaging | |
In terms of packaging, the Asus VA24EHE is pretty standard. The monitor itself is encased between two pieces of styrofoam for protection. The included stand also comes in two pieces so you will have to assemble it before use. Setup is fairly straightforward. You simply need to slide the monitor stand into the base/platform and then slide into the locking mechanism of the monitor. There’s a visual guideline included in the packaging if you want to double-check. Along with the monitor and stand come cables. These are a standard IEC cable for power, as well as an HDMI cable as well as a D-SUB (also known as a VGA) cable. The Asus VA24EHE supports D-Sub, DVI-D as well as HDMI. For best performance, it’s recommended that you use the HDMI port or DVI-D. Most modern graphics cards don’t come with a D-Sub port anyway so your best bet is either of the other two ports. Since there’s an included HDMI cable, that narrows down your choices, making the whole process easier. In addition, the D-Sub only gives up to 60Hz so you’re better off ditching it as fast as possible. Once the monitor is plugged in, you can power it on and fiddle around with the OSD or On-screen display. These are a bunch of features that you can customize from the monitor itself, without the need for additional software. For example, you can choose from 8 Asus SPLENDID Video Preset Modes. These are sRGB Mode, Scenery Mode, Theater Mode, Standard Mode, Night View Mode, Game Mode, Reading Mode, and Darkroom Mode. For the best colors, it is recommended selecting sRGB mode as it gives you an accurate representation of the color spectrum. You also have a 3 step skin tone selection, a 4 mode color temperature selection, Low Blue Light and VividPixel. Gamers will definitely want to enable the Adaptive-Sync feature on the monitor as it is disabled by default. For an extra edge, Asus also provides a GamePlus Mode. With this, you can choose between having an on-screen crosshair for all those first-person shooter fans, an FPS counter to see how many frames you’re getting, or a display alignment option. This is useful if you have two or more panels connected and you want to make them appear seamlessly as one giant display because the VA24EHE has very thin bezels, this is actually something that you can do. Overall, the Asus VE24EHE certainly has a lot going for it. Priced at an aggressive LKR 27,500/- and available at Redline Technologies, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another monitor in the market that offers all the features of the VE24EHE at that same price point. It ticks off almost all the requirements a techie would look for in a monitor with an affordable price to boot as well. If you’re in the market for a slightly larger monitor with the same features, you can also check out the Asus VE27EHE 27” monitor, priced at LKR 37,500/-. If you’re looking to add a bit more oomph to your desktop setup, you can also get a VESA Wall mount and mount the monitor on your wall, freeing up desk space. |
