Sri Jayewardenepura Uni undergraduate wins Chemistry Competition Gold medal

The Inter University Chemistry Competition is an annual competition conducted by the Sri Lanka Section of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The gold medal of the 2019 competition was won by Ms. A.A.D.T. Abeysinghe from the Department of the Chemistry, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

This competition was open to the top three performers in the Department of chemistry of each university in Sri Lanka. It consisted of a theory based written paper which assessed the chemistry knowledge of the contestants and a viva voce examination based on their research exposure and presentation skills. Ms. Abeysinghe, who obtained a first class in her chemistry degree, presented her research done under the topic ‘Development of a nanobiosensor for the detection of leptin; a biomarker for obesity’ for the oral examination. The competition was held in the Council Chamber of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS).

Apart from winning the first place, the other two participants from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura also managed to bring glory to the institution. Ms. K.D.M.B. Dharmasiri and Ms. M.K. Wijayahena acquired merits awards in this prestigious competition.
