Anuradhapura record clean sweep
Lyceum International School, Anuradhapura made a clean sweep of 3-0 against Lyceum International School, Kurunegala to win the Battle of Athugalpura vs Anurapura Cricket Series. The maiden Limited Overs Cricket Series between Lyceum International Schools of Kurunegala and Anuradhapura was played at the Samadhi Cricket ground in Anuradhapura, where the hosts recorded three easy wins within one day.
In the first game Lyceum Kurunegala batted first and were skittled out for 64 runs in 16.4 overs. Lyceum Anuradhapura chased down the target, by reaching 68 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 5.5 overs, to win the game by 9 wickets. In the second game, Anuradhapura batted first and amassed 123 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted 10 overs, while restricting Kurunegala to 63 runs for the loss of four wickets, to record a 60-run win.
The third and final game, which was a dead rubber, came in as a smashing win for the Anuradhapura lads, who snatched up the series with a massive 134-run win. Batting first Lyceum Anuradhapura amassed 207 runs, losing just one wicket in their allotted 15 overs, giving them the joy of creating a record for the highest total of the series. In return, Lyceum Kurunegala were restricted to 73 runs for the loss of five wickets, giving Lyceum Anuradhapura a 3-0 win of the series.
The cricket series was well attended by the students, teachers, parents and well-wishers of both Lyceum schools from Anuradhapura and Kurunegala. The games were played at junior level, where Under-13 and Under-11 cricketers from both schools were seen in action throughout the day.
