The late R. R. Samarakoon’s ever popular social and political satire “Kelani Palama” (The Kelani Bridge) will be staged at 3.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. on December 12 at the Lionel Wendt, Colombo 7.

One of the longest running plays in the theatre history of Sri Lanka, the new cast of Kelani Palama includes Ramya Wanigasekara, Geetha Kanthi Jayakodi, Palitha Perera, Prasannajith Abesooriya, Madhani Malwattage, Dimuthu Chinthaka, Prasad Sooriya Arachchi and Neluka Rekani.

First performed in 1978, the play continues to entertain theatre lovers for over four decades and interestingly the social and political issues discussed are still valid to today’s contest as well.

Revolving around poor lower class set of families living under famous ‘Kelani Palama’, Samarakone aptly narrates the society where they dwell and the social and political evils that exploit them.

All seats are box planned and tickets are now available at Lionel Wendt theatre. “Kelani Palama” is organized by Jude Srimal.
