Ceylon Teachers Services Union (CTSU) Secretary Mahinda Jayasingha said the recruitment policy of the Education Ministry is the reason for the failure of filling in some of the vacancies in national schools.

The Public Service Commission had approved the recruits, according to the circulars, but they were rejected by the Education Ministry due to political influence, said Mr Jayasingha.

He said that some of the ‘acting’ appointments were given as a result of political appointments.

Certain vacancies have not been filled for a long a period of time, as mentioned by the Education Minister, Mr Jayasingha added.

He said the CTSU wants the ministry to take action to fill the vacancies, by calling from applications from those eligible to hold these positions.
