Expert committee to be appointed to make education a closed service
View(s):Wednesday’s cabinet meeting approved the appointing of a committee of experts to conduct studies and prepare proposals for making education a ‘closed service.’
The proposal was made to quickly resolve education services related issues, commend services provided, and increase professionalism. The government realised that it was best to make education a closed service to provide benefits to teachers, principals, educational advisers and education administration officials.
The proposal was made by Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.
Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin said making education a closed service is a good move of the current government.
He said the union has been asking the government to do this for some time.
“The last government too got cabinet approval to make education a closed service but it never happened. So we are asking the new government to quickly appoint the committee of experts and make this happen,” said Mr Stalin.
