“The Design Hive” creative design open workshops organised by Raffles University Colombo help aspiring designers and creative individuals’ step into the world of fashion and creativity. The workshops held on Friday the 29th of November specialised in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Multimedia Design giving design enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with some of the most talented industry experts and academics in each of the respective fields.
The Fashion Design workshop led by internationally recognised Dinesh Chandrasena along with fashion designer Nayana Nilanga, focused on covering the nuances of colour theory and color psychology for the creative industries.
Color is one of the key elements of design and the attendees learned the colour wheel and about the underlying meanings of colours which are always being analysed by designers and incorporated into their creations at an industry level.
The Interior Design Workshop was conducted by Raffles’ Interior Designer Nicola Packianathan, helping the attendees to understand practical applications in home interior design. The students were given a tutorial on Residential Interiors and a guide to recreate a space in their own home with the help of mood boards. This created a pathway for the attendees to transform their living spaces highlighting their own individual creative personalities.
The Graphic Design Workshop conducted by international film maker, Akash Sunethkumara focused on the visualisation processes and the subsequent steps taken to put one’s own vision onto the screen and thereby creating a pathway to visual imagination.
The workshop also helped in bridging the gap by imparting tips and tricks that any content creator can use to turn their vision into reality.
The Multimedia Design Workshop was conducted by professional photographer and designer, Samal Bandara focused on developing a passion for photography and on how to take control of a camera. The basics of how to use a camera’s manual shooting mode, creating an organised workflow using Adobe Light room Classic, developing basic image processing techniques, and shooting creative and stimulating visuals on a regular basis were highlighted at the workshop.
