Villagers vs sand mafia
Clashes broke out this week between residents and sand miners in the Jaffna peninsula. This was after the government cancelled the permit system required to transport sand. The clashes were between sand traders and the villagers who chased away traders and also set fire to a tractor Pic and text by Jaffna correspondent N.Parameswaran.
