35 navy personnel complete first US Expert Exchange Programme
View(s):The ‘Naval Special Warfare Maritime Security Course 2019′ which was conducted under the Expert Exchange Programme by the United States Navy and 4th Fast Attack Flotilla and the Special Boat Squadron of Sri Lanka Navy, was concluded on Friday with a certificate awarding ceremony.
The course which began on December 2, lasted 12 days.
Deputy Area Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Sanjeewa Dias was Chief Guest. Commanding Officer of the 4th Fast |Attack Flotilla Captain H. Dammika Wijewardhane, Commanding Officer Special Boat Squadron Commander S.B.S. Thushitha Daminda and senior officers of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla and Special Boat Squadron also participated.
Thirty-five Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) personnel, comprising 24 members from the Special Boat Squadron and 11 from the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla who followed the course successfully completed the training programme.
The course was conducted by eight trainers of the Special Boat Team of the US Navy.
The twelve-day training course, focused mainly on the ‘Role in Maritime Domain, Maintenance and Navigation of Craft, Maritime Security, Mission Planning and Personal Safety.
Course participants also received training in theoretical and practical aspects in varied subjects such as Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Life Saving Techniques, Basic Maintenance and Repair Procedures, Preventive and Corrective Maintenance Procedures, Boats and Marine Engines, Mission Planning Procedures, Operation Risk Management, Team Building Activities related to Engineering and TCCC.
This exercise was the first Expert Exchange Programme worked out in collaboration with the Special Boat Team of the US Navy.
