Lakshan’s brisk ton helps Colts sink Navy
All-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan smacked a swashbuckling century to hand Colts CC a massive 176-run win over hapless Navy SC in their opening fixture of the SLC Invitational Limited Over tournament at Colts ground yesterday.
Lakshan whose unbeaten 106 came off just 54 deliveries shared a significant 125-run stand for the sixth wicket with Vishad Randika, as the hosts batting first scored 319 for the loss of six wickets at the end of their allotted overs.
Lakshan treated the Navy bowling attack mercilessly smashing nine sixes and seven boundaries while his partner hit a quick-fire 72 off 57 deliveries with four sixes and three boundaries to lay the foundation for their crushing victory.
Chasing a huge total, the sailors were in deep trouble early on losing wickets at regular intervals with the Colts bowlers running through the innings with ease.
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was the chief tormentor claiming three wickets for 35 runs while Akila Dananjaya (2 for 35) and Nipun Malinga (2 for 23) also contributed to their resounding victory.
Half tons by Mahela Udawatte and Angelo Perera paved the way for NCC to record a comfortable 98-run win over Police SC while SLPA CC and Air Force SC pulled off stunning wins against the more fancied CCC and Tamil Union in matches played at the CCC ground and P. Sara Stadium.
Sri Lanka Port Authority bowlers wreaked havoc as they bowled out the hosts for 65 runs inside 28 overs before reaching the target in the 20th over for the loss of three wickets to kick-off their campaign in style.
In the other matches, SSC, Ragama CC, Negombo CC, Army SC and Panadura SC ran out victors against Lankan CC, Kalutara TC, BRC, Badureliya CC and Kurunegala YCC.
Charith Asalanka smashed an unbeaten 119 off 128 balls with 11 boundaries and one six while Tharindu Ratnayake hit a brisk 44 off 15 balls with five sixes and two boundaries as SSC posted a 61-run win over Lankan CC who were bowled out for 211 with Tharindu Ratnayake, Dhammika Prasad, Sachithra Senanayake and Jeffrey Vandersay doing the honours with the ball.
