Sri Lanka thrash Philippines to regain spot in Top Tier

After two seasons Sri Lanka will join the Top Tier of the Asia Rugby Under-19 Men’s Rugby Championship, after finishing off victorious in the Division I segment at the Yongchuan Sports Centre in Thailand yesterday.
After having defeated China comprehensively by 39-14 on Wednesday in the Division I semi-final clash, Sri Lanka’s game against the Philippines Volcanoes was a one way traffic, as the Young Tuskers recorded a smashing 40-0 victory.
Sri Lanka will now join the Asian Rugby Men’s Under-19 Rugby Championship Top Tier alongside Hong Kong, South Korea and the winner of the playoff between Singapore and Chinese Taipei.
Yesterday, the Young Tuskers deservingly won their way back to the top division, where they are usually placed with two back-to-back wins, as skipper Thulaib Hassen scored a double to lead his team from the front.
Adnan Adahan, Asiri Seneviratne, Janindu Yasas and Samuel Ogbebor touched down once as Sri Lanka scored from a tally of six tries, two conversions and two penalties. Zubair Doray converted two tries while Manilka Ruberu put over two penalties in Sri Lanka’s convincing 40-0 win against the Philippines.
In the semi-finals, the Philippines secured a remarkable win in a penalty shootout after the scores were levelled 17-17 at full time, while the Lankans recorded a runaway victory against China.
Against China Samuel Ogbebor scored twice. Manika Ruberu also got into action by scoring 16 points including a try, a conversion, and three penalties. After two matches skipper Hassen and Ogbebor finishes off with three tries each.
