‘Tis the season for home bakers
What is Christmas without Christmas cake and other goodies. This week we take a peek into the lives of a few home bakers, who tell us what the season is like for them in their households
The Baking Law Student
Although no longer a student, Rashmi Dias has been promoting her baking talents through her page ‘The Baking Law Student’ for a while now.
For her the feel of Christmas is indescribe and ofcourse she enjoys the food aspect of it in particular. “The whole house smells of that Christmas warmth and spices and its wonderful,“ she says
Her annual bake sale will take place today (Dec 22) at Plus Nine Four Colombo 5 starting at 10.30am. Rashmi, together with her friends, fondly known as her ‘Bake Sale Crew’ will be selling her baked goodies including her ‘Irish Intoxication’, Lemon curd and passion fruit curd cupcakes. Rashmi has also been experimenting with a few more Christmas items and looks to include some of those as well.
The proceeds from the sale will be donated towards charity and she urges everyone to bring cash since she does not have any card machines.

The Sugar Shack
Aru de Silva comes from a family of bakers. Back in December 2010 she had a Christmas Bake Sale at her parents’ house to earn some extra money for the season, and that’s where it all started off. Her store ‘The Sugar Shack’ opened its doors in December 2017.
Since 2010, Aru has always put together a Christmas bake sale on December 24. This year too, they will be having a full range of all their goodies including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, yule log, Christmas Cake and Breudher.
Though it’s one of the busiest times, work wise, Christmas is still Aru’s favourite time of year. She adores how everything is lit up, the crispness in the air, and everyone getting together during this time.

Lisa’s Love Bites
Lisa is a writer and designer by profession. But recently, she took a leap of faith and started her own home baking venture, ‘Lisa’s Love Bites’. Lisa enjoys it when people inbox her about how much they loved a cake she baked. “It’s almost like getting a nice hug,” she tells us.
“I decided that I would create new flavours, designs and try to be mysteriously unusual. I like a little magic and mystery in life, don’t you? It makes life so much more fun,” she tells us.
This is the first time that Lisa will be in operation for Christmas and she feels like the season sneaked up on her. “I think the world needs more magic, dreamers and believers. Only then will we spread more love and live healed and happy lives,” she says.

Enchanted Delights
Nilusha Deheragoda is the face behind “Enchanted Delights”, which she started with the help of her mother and family when she was 21 years old.
“Over the years I have taken it upon myself to do the best version of all my Nana’s delicacies and give a little bit of what I have grown up with to my very loyal and happy customers,” she tells us.
To Nilusha, Christmas has always been about family and food. Her home would always have pans and pans of Breudher dough, Christmas cake and Love cake mix sitting on the counter to be baked and delivered to her customers.
“The special time taken to wrap them up with that extra Christmas love, and finally seeing the satisfaction on their faces is just the icing on the cake for me,” she tells us.
Nilusha intends to give her customers a little extra touch of home this season by adding a few of her Grandma’s beloved family recipes to the mix.
Anyone wanting to order her baked products can visit her FB page ‘Enchanted Delights’ or her Instagram page instagram.com/enchanted._.delights.
