The Cricket Foundation of Kalutara Vidyalaya, led by prominent and senior sports journalist and renowned cricket coach Ranjan Paranavithana, has made plans to conduct a musical extravaganza, ‘Cric Bash’ next Sunday.

The musical programme, themed ‘from cricketers to cricket of Kalutara Vidyalaya’ will feature former and present national cricketers take the stage to showcase their singing abilities with the sole intention of gathering aid to support the Cricket Foundation Fund of Kalutara Vidyalaya.

“We have a fleet of cricketers — present and past — who mostly reached the national level from Kalutara Vidyalaya, presenting their singing skills. All these cricketers who will be singing live on stage, will perform voluntarily, with the intention of raising funds to uplift cricket at Kalutara Vidyalaya,” Paranavithana stated.

The ‘Cric Bash’ concert will be held next Sunday, December 29 at the Kalutara Town Hall at 6.30pm. Among those who will perform live on stage will be Sachithra Senanayake, Dilshan Munaweera, Lahiru Madushanka, Chaminda Vaas, Upul Chandana, Madawa Warnapura, Sandun Weerakkody, Akalanka Ganegama, Dhammika Prasad and Niroshan Dickwella with TM Dilshan and Milinda Siriwardana, who are products of Kalutara Vidyalaya.

Sri Lanka’s greatest cricket fan Percy Abeysekara will join the singers on stage and is expected to perform a gig as well. Kalutara Vidyalaya has produced five Test cricketers, besides the 10 cricketers, who had reached the Sri Lanka ‘A’ level.

“Kalutara Vidyalaya is known as a strong contributor to national cricket and a well performing side in the Schools Cricket Tournament. But in the recent years there has been a decline in both. The Cricket Foundation of the school is planning this as a project to help Kalutara Vidyalaya reach its former glory,” Paranavithana, a former skipper and a coach of the Kalutara school further said.
