Study with CfPS Law School and graduate with a First Class LL.B from the University of London
View(s):Nadumi Wijerathne – a Student of CfPS Law School obtained a First Class honors LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) degree from the University of London at the 2019 examinations. Among thousands of students around the world who sat the University of London LL.B exams in 2019, only 8 students including Nedumi obtained a first class.
We interviewed Mr. Nanda Muruttettuwegama- Joint Managing Director of the CfPS.
A- This is the 27th year of our law school. The CfPS is the iconic leader of the private legal education in this country. We have produced over 5,000 lawyers through our various courses. We are also a Registered Centre of the University of London. Our institution is situated at a very convenient location in Colombo- 07 and we have the latest teaching facilities including library facilities.
A – The University of London is one of the most prestigious and top ranked Universities in the world and in the UK.
A- The UOL LL.B degree represents the gold standard of the undergraduate law degrees in the world. The University of London LL.B is endorsed by the Quality Assurance Agency of the UK.
Q: – Can a student obtain the University of London LL.B without going to England?
A- Yes. You can study in Sri Lanka at one of the Recognized Teaching Institutions of the University of London such as the CfPS Law School and obtain the University of London LL.B.
The University of London LL.B degree certificate does not mention the place or county of study or the institution where the student studied – it simply says the degree is awarded by the University of London.
A- Nedumi Wijerathne who got a first class last year generously attributes her success to the eminent lecture panel of CfPS Law School which consists of legal practitioners and legal academics possessing both local and UK academic and professional qualifications.
Q: – What are your results?
A- In addition to a first class we have produced several second class upper division graduates. Our final year pass percentage is approximately 93%.
A- If you have A/L’s with a “C” pass for English at the O/L you can do the degree through the standard entry route (three years) and if you have a degree on any subject in any language medium that is acceptable to the University of London you can do the degree through the graduate entry route (2 years only). If you do not have the A/L but you have a “B” pas or English and 3 “C” passes at the O/L you can enter the programme through the Certificate of Higher Education in Common law route which is equivalent to the first year of the LL.B degree.
University of London LL.B graduates are eligible to sit for the Sri Lanka Law College exams without having to pass the most competitive law college entrance examination. Students can complete these exams in one year after completing the UOL LL.B degree.
A- Practicing in courts is only one of the many career opportunities available to a lawyer. A lawyer can join a company as a legal officer and he can also attest deeds. A lawyer can also join the judiciary as a judge or be a law lecturer.
A- We teach using the latest teaching techniques and technologies which includes teaching through a highly developed student portal. We give a detailed note for every subject. We also have Online Assignments, Take Home Assignments, Open Book Examinations and Mock examinations for students to assess their progress from time to time.
Q- How much does the UOL LL.B with the CfPS cost?
A- If you enter through the standard entry or Certificate in Higher education in Common law route the total investment for the entire course including what you pay the University of London will be around Rs. 1.7 Million and if you are already a graduate your total investment will be around Rs 1.3 Million.
Q: – Do you award Scholarships?
A- Have you heard of any institution that awards scholarships worth over 22 Million each year. That institution is the CfPS. If you can convince us that you are exceptional, we are prepared to go to the extent of awarding even a 100% scholarship.
