High-flyers of 2019 GCE Advanced Level exam awarded CA Sri Lanka scholarships

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), recently awarded scholarships to 11 high-flyers including the island top ten of the 2019 GCE Advanced Level examination.

The scholarships which were awarded to the top achievers of the commerce and physical science stream, enables students to embark on a successful professional journey to become Chartered Accountants.

The scholarships were awarded to the students by President (Elect) of CA Sri Lanka Mr. Manil Jayesinghe, in the presence of Vice President (Elect) Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, outgoing President Mr. Jagath Perera, CEO Ms. Dulani Fernando and Secretary Mr. Prasanna Liyanage.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Jayesinghe noted the value of being a professional and highlighted the high level of employability the CA qualification offers locally and overseas. He went on to note that the required skills harnessed through the CA qualification will help students become true and holistic professionals.

The 11 scholarship recipients with CA Sri Lanka’s President elect Mr. Manil Jayesinghe, Vice President elect Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, other CA officials and lecturers.

The scholarship recipients were Teshani Nimhara Hettige (island rank 1st of the Commerce Stream), Niroshan Sandaruwan (island rank 1st of the Commerce Stream of the Old Syllabus), Sudara Sansali De Silva (island rank 2nd of the Commerce Stream), Gimasha Chandradasa (island rank 3rd of the Commerce Stream), Sanjana Kapukotuwa (island rank 3rd of the Physical Science Stream), Nethmi Kavindya (island rank 5th of the Commerce Stream), Nathasha Jayasinghe (island rank 6th of the Commerce Stream), Dinushi Udahari (island rank 7th of the Commerce Stream), Chamika Eranda Bandara (island rank 8th of the Commerce Stream), Sajana Lokugamage, (island rank 9th of the Commerce Stream) and Imashi Budunwela (Island Rank 10th of the Commerce Stream).

Students who have obtained a minimum of three simple passes in any subject stream at the GCE Advanced Level exam can register at CA Sri Lanka to pursue a career in accounting.

Due to its global recognition, the CA Sri Lanka program is a much sought-after qualification in Sri Lanka, making the Institute the preferred destination for accountancy education in the country.

Accountants produced by CA Sri Lanka are recognised as dynamic business leaders, due to their multi-faceted technical skills and unique business acumen which helps them lead businesses successfully.

To counter the changing dynamics of the corporate world, and increasing challenges with the onset of digital disruption, big data, automation and robotics, CA Sri Lanka launched the Curriculum 2020 which will mould revolutionary Chartered Accountants by instilling strong business intelligence, IT and leadership skills to help revive corporate
Sri Lanka.

Students who follow the CA programme have the option of exiting as a Certified Business Accountant (CBA), Certified Corporate Accountant (CCA), or as an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), which is the benchmark qualification offered by CA Sri Lanka. A student who completes the CBA qualification can engage as an accountant in the SME sector, while a CCA can serve as an accountant in a large organization. An ACA is CFO compatible in a larger organisation, along with the ability to take on a more dynamic leadership role including Chairman, Partner, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Meanwhile, CA Sri Lanka also entered into a historic agreement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to offer a dual membership pathway for CA Students for the first time in the Institute’s history. Students who are eligible for the Strategic Level examination can embark on this pathway by completing only three subjects; Corporate Reporting, Strategic Business Management subjects and the Case Study of the ICAEW examination instead of three subjects of the CA Sri Lanka Curriculum to obtain membership from CA Sri Lanka and ICAEW simultaneously.
