Paethetigala Bridge in bad state of disrepair
View(s):Construction work on the Paethetigala Bridge on the Kaduwela-Nawagamuwa Road is yet to be completed, posing major problems to people in the area.
The bridge, located in the vicinity of Nawagmuwa Hospital and a school is used by many families on a daily basis.
Area residents say the plight of pregnant women and hundreds of small children is pathetic, as they have to now walk miles seeking alternative routes to reach their destination. Anyone visiting the town has to face multiple difficulties simply because the authorities have not taken the trouble to even construct a temporary bridge as an alternative.
The Paethetigala bridge is also the main gateway to Colombo in the event the Kelani River overflows and an alternative route for residents living around Hanwella , Nawagamuwa and the Korathota areas to get to Colombo.
Residents complain that if the on-going construction work is not completed by the time of the rainy season, the public will face a calamitous situation.
Residents and road users are demanding the authorities tackle this problem urgently by at least constructing a temporary bridge to ease the problems they are faced with.
