Trinco casual worker’s daughter achieves best A/L results in district
View(s):Anuradha Yahampath, Governor of the Eastern Province paid a visit to the home of Mirasa Fathima of Saheera College Trincomalee. Young Fathima who studies Bio Science, received the highest marks at the ‘A’ level examination in the Trincomalee District.
Noting that her house -a shanty dwelling- with a thatched palm leafed roof, the Governor promised to construct a brick and mortar house, utilising funds allocated to the Provincial Housing Authority as her house is in an unstable condition.
Fathima’s father works as a casual labourer, at a brick-making kiln. She has never had a permanent dwelling to call her own.
Despite these draw backs the young student was able to receive the highest grades in the district.
The Govenor, presenting young Fathima a laptop, promised she would receive financial support to continue her higher studies.
“I want to become an obstetrician, specialise in gynaecology and serve the country,” Fathima said.
