A towering shame
View(s):Putting up clock towers in towns and city centres is a common practice in our country. The aim of course is to make the public and other passersby aware of the time.
Our people not being very time-conscious, the aim of constructing the clock towers, is a very admirable one.
But, unfortunately most of the clocks on these towers do not keep time. Time stands still on many of these clock towers, while the clocks on many other clock towers are malfunctioning .
For instance the clock tower at the Maradana main railway station -perhaps one of the busiest points in the city- especially during the morning and evening rush hour is one such example. The four different timepieces have ceased functiong.
In some instances the faces of clocks show four different times! often misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
Many of these clock towers are maintained by the local councils in the respective areas, while a few are maintained by private companies.
Our cameraman caught on film a number of clock towers which have either completely broken down or are malfunctioning
