From jaguars to gorillas; encounters with the wild around the world
View(s):“We chased a dream of travelling in the wilds both here in Sri Lanka and across the world,” says Chitral Jayatilake, CEO of Cinnamon Holidays on how Cinnamon Holidays began facilitating photographic safaris six years ago.
Starting off with India – exploring the Chambal River in Madhya Pradesh photographing Skimmers and Comb ducks and then going into Tiger country in Ranthambhore national park, soon, they had covered seven national parks from Jawai hills down to Pench and Kabini.
Africa followed and they were taking clients to Kenya and Zambia extending to Rwanda to see the amazing mountain gorillas.
The magic extended to the Pantanals in Brazil looking for Jaguars on Cuiaba river. “The experience in Brazil was simply unforgettable. Twelve photographers had amazing sightings of over 14 jaguars and added a 120 species of new birds to a lifetime list of bird watching,” says Chitral. Madagascar and Borneo were also added.
After exploring the wilderness in nine countries and seeing over 16 national parks, ‘Travelling in the Wild’ – their wildlife exhibition will feature the efforts of over 40 photographers who travelled with them, some as young as six years of age all the way to senior citizens.
The exhibition will be open to the public next weekend – on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19 at the Harold Peiris Gallery of the Lionel Wendt with over 170 images showcasing an amazing array of sightings captured with passion.
