Over 600 players and 550 games at SSC Open Tennis 2020
View(s):Over 600 players will feature in over 550 matches as the SSC Open Tennis Tournament got underway at the SSC courts in Maitland Place. Among competitors are top seed national players, who will become the cynosure as the tournament is set to progress during the next couple of weeks.
Top ranked Sri Lanka Men’s players Yasitha de Silva, Akhila Vimukthi, Dumindu Dilum, Chaturya Nilaweera, Savith Weerasinghe along with Sri Lanka’s number one Women’s player Anjelika Kurera and other top ranked players Janeli Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya are among the participants.
The tournament will be conducted in Junior and Open categories for men and women as the curtain raiser in the Sri Lanka Tennis calendar for 2020 began on Friday. The junior age groups of Under-12, 14, 16, 18 along with Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles and Veterans Over-35 and 45 events are scheduled during the coming fortnight.
Over 550 matches have been drafted at the SSC tennis courts throughout the mornings and evenings. The tournament is conducted by Tournament Referee Mufaddal Hazari (International Tennis Federation Qualified – White Badge) and the Tournament Director is Chammika de Silva of the SSC Tennis Association. DIMO, Perera & Son’s, Head (3G Sports) and ThePapare.com have come forward as sponsors of the event once again.
