View(s):Oral Presentation Award at the International Conference on Environmental and medical Statistics 2020
The best oral presentation award in the undergraduate category was won by Ms. Buddima Pathiraja who presented her undergraduate research on ‘Banana Pseudo Stem as a prospective adsorbent to Remove Industrial Dyes’ at the International Conference on Environmental and Medical Statistics held on the 9th and 10th of January 2020 at the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya.
Her undergraduate research was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Udaya Jayasundara, Senior Lecturer, College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. The research work was fully carried out at College of Chemical Sciences laboratory where she developed a low cost adsorbent to remove industrial dyes, a major water pollutant, from water bodies.
Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya and Postgraduate Institute of Science, jointly organized this international conference with the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA which was focused on brining recent developments in the fields of Environmental and Medical statistics related areas to solve emerging problems of the 21st century while amassing research students, academics, leading scholars and scientists for collaborations to share their research experiences and discoveries.
Ms. Buddima is currently working as a Teaching Assistant at the College of Chemical Sciences where she managed to maintain a good academic record while being engaged in extra-curricular activities and will be graduating as a Graduate Chemist in March 2020.
