MAS Unichela, Hayleys clash for Mercantile cricket T20 title
View(s):Defending champions MAS Unichela will meet HayleysPLC in the finals of the 27th Singer MCA Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament 2020 today at the Mercantile Cricket Association grounds. Play will commence at 10.00am.
In the first semi-final match played at the P. Saravanamuttu Oval on Friday between MAS Unichela and Dimo saw MAS Unichela scoring a 5-wicket victory in a thriller with two balls to spare.
Dimo batting first posted a respectable 168 for the loss of nine wickets. Thikshila De Silva top scored for engineers with a polished 51 (25 deliveries including two sixes and three fours). Former Sri Lanka paceman Dhammika Prasad in a fine spell of bowling 4-0-31-4 was the most successful MAS bowler who was ably supported by Wanindu Hasaranga (2/14) and Nuwan Thushara (2/33).
Thikshila de Silva’s inning went down the drain as MAS in their run chase was spearheaded by a lusty 77 by T.M. Sampath (54 deliveries including three sixes and nine fours) helped MAS to go pass the engineering firm’s total with two balls to spare.
SLC Emerging team and Hayleys clash in the second semi-final at the MCA Grounds yesterday Emerging cricketers, batting first scored 146 for eight. Their innings was steadied by Dushan Vimukthi (34), Vishad Randika (43) and Nimnada Subasinghe (22) after Hayleys Lahiru Samarakoon rattled the front line with two quick wickets as they lost three wickets within the first three overs.
Samarakoon ended with four wickets while Chaturanga de Silva kept the middle order in check to capture two wickets.
Hayleys batsmen Avishka Fernando and Ron Chandraguptha made merry with the Emerging team bowlers as both of them firing the ball to all corners of the field to collect runs at will. Fernando and Chandraguptha carried on their bats to remain unbeaten on 92 and 39 as Hayleys booked their berth to the finals.
