SLC distributes 8000 cricket balls to schools
View(s):Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) last week completed the distribution of 8,000 cricket balls, to cricket playing schools, which takes part in the ongoing Under-19 School Cricket Tournament.
The Ball Distribution Scheme, which saw a significant investment was conducted under the guidance of the President of SLC, Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee in collaboration with the School Cricket Association.
The distribution was conducted in two phases and the first phase was held, under the patronage of the Vice President of the SLC, Ravin Wickramaratne, during a function held at the Nalanda College Colombo, which saw 3,195 balls distributed among 71 Schools.
The second phase was conducted on January 17 at the RPICS, Colombo, under the patronage of Lasantha Wickramasinghe, the Treasurer of the SLC, which saw 4,776 balls distributed among 186 Schools. Thilak Wattuhewa, the Vice President of the School Cricket Association also was present at the occasion.
The ‘Ball Distribution Scheme’, which was managed by Chinthaka Edirimanne, the Head of Domestic Cricket Operation, covers both the two-day games (Red Balls) and the 50-over games (White Ball) and focused on schools playing in the Division 1, 2 and 3 of the ongoing tournament.
The balls distributed are of high quality standard and ensures equal opportunities for the schools to maintain highest standards of cricket. The Under-19 School Cricket Tournament takes place from September to April.
