New undergraduates begin studies at Colombo Science Faculty

The enrollment ceremony of the 2019/2020 Batch of University of Colombo’s Faculty of Science was held on January 17 at the faculty premises.
Registration for the new intake takes place in January every year. This year too, it was conducted successfully with the collaboration of the University’s Examination and Registration Branch and the faculty’s Information Technology Unit.
The Intensive English Programme Test and student registrations were held on the same day. The Orientation programme and the English and Tamil programmes will start in mid-February, while academic activities will begin in March. The Colombo University’s Faculty of Science is considered to be a prestigious centre of scientific and technological excellence at national and international levels. The Faculty provides growing thinkers and innovators with openings to quench their thirst for knowledge.
It provides students with many other advantages, through a variety of student bodies including clubs and societies, and good sports facilities. A learning environment devoid of unrest, ragging and violence is a feature of this Faculty. The faculty also offers dynamic student life with many learning platforms. Its seven academic departments namely, Zoology & Environment Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Nuclear Science, Physics, Plant Sciences and Statistics, offer many degree programmes for undergraduate and post-graduate students.
Some programmes are industrial-oriented degrees while others are academic-oriented. In the first two years, students follow common subjects for general and honours degree programmes. After two years of study, students can apply for an honours degree (four years duration) based on merit.
