Students not allowed in public events, school events to have limited time period
View(s):School students should not gather on roadsides to welcome people or take part in fund raisers or other publicity campaigns, Education Ministry officials said recently.
The ministry also said a circular was issued with regard to school events and students participating in public ceremonies.
“It has been reported through various sources that certain ceremonies obstruct the teaching and learning process of schools by creating disciplinary issues among students,” the circular read.
The ministry also said school events such as school sports meets, annual prize giving and school concerts should have a limited number of speeches.
“Allocating seating arrangements for the Head Prefect on the main stage too is important.”
Apart from the annual prize giving and the sports meet, other school events should be limited to one hour.
“School events should be as short as possible because of the valuable time of students and other participants. They should be organised in a way where educational features are prioritised.”
“Compering of such events should be compulsory and entrusted to students so they can develop their skills.”
The circular was issued to all Provincial Secretaries of Education, Provincial Directors of Education, Zonal Directors of Education and all heads of schools.
When students participate in an event organised by a government institution or any other reputed organisation, the organisers should provide food, medical and transport facilities, security and other facilities required by the students.
“Students should not participate in any non-educational residential or non-residential programmes organised by various organisations or associations.”
Public ceremonies participated by students will be; national/provincial sports meets, cultural events organised at national/provincial level, Independence Day celebrations, celebrations attended by foreign Heads of State and other events approved by the State Education Ministry and Provincial Education Ministry.
The circular also mentioned about morning assembly conducted in schools. It said an allocation of 15 minutes for morning assembly is adequate. It also said arrangements should be made to conduct a physical exercise session of 10 minutes for all students on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday. In case a sports teacher is absent, a teacher knowledgeable in this regard may be assigned.
