The Health Ministry has introduced a mobile app to track down the movement of visiting Chinese nationals and help medical and public health officers to monitor their health condition.

Sri Lanka usually was receiving 800 to 1,200 Chinese tourist a day, but after the coronavirus scare the figure has dropped to 10 to 15 a day.

The app has been introduced as part of the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka

On arrival, Chinese visitors will be required to provide their mobile phone numbers they will be using in Sri Lanka. Thereby, the Medical Health Officers and the Public Health Inspectors will be able to track down the location of the visitors and check their health condition with the help of the app.

In turn, the health officers will be able to either visit the location of the guest or send a message to the visitors’ phone telling them to undergo an examination at the nearest hospital.

The visiting tourists themselves also can seek the help of a MOH or PHI under the scheme.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has received a report from the Immigration Department about a major drop in the arrival of Chinese tourists.

At present, all passengers arriving in the country are required to make a self-declaration about their health condition.
