Amil Abeysundara appointed to lead Colombo District Scout Division
View(s):Mr. Gihan Amil Abeysundara assumed duties as the new Sri Lanka Scout Association Colombo District Commissioner on February 1.
Mr. Abeysundara had served the Colombo District Branch as an Assistant District Commissioner and as Deputy District Commissioner.
He was nominated for the new position by Former Colombo District Commissioner and Executive Committee Chairman Suren Wickramathilake.
The nomination was made to Sri Lanka Scout Association Chief Commissioner Major General Milinda Peiris, who appointed
Mr. Abeysundara after an interview.
An active D. S. Senanayake College old boy Mr. Abeysundara studied at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, South Bank University in London and at Cardiff Metropolitan University in the UK and is a qualified Civil Engineer.
Mr. Abeysundara joined the Scout Movement in 1992 as a Junior Scout, and was among the first five President Scouts produced by his Alma Mater.
He was the Scout Leader of D. S. Senanayake College for many years until he was invited to serve the movement at District level.
He was also the first Wood Badge holder from his school. Mr. Abeysundara had participated and led many contingents of Scouts and Leaders for Scout Jamborees both at national and international level.
He had also attended several Asia Pacific Regional and World Conferences held in Bangladesh, Korea, Philippines, Slovenia and Azerbaijan.
Mr. Abeysundara is currently the Amil Industries Managing Director, Amil Builders Chief Engineer and Amil Trading Director. He is married to Heshini Abeysundara and is blessed with three children.
