Kandy Society of Medicine continues promoting medical education
View(s):The academic sessions of the Kandy Society of Medicine were held this month. They are held in February every year, and have been a platform for the delivery of continuing medical education in the country.
The Chief Guest at the 42nd Kandy Society of Medicine Annual Academic Sessions was Professor Shanthi Mendis of the Geneva Leaning Foundation and former WHO (Geneva) non-communicable diseases Senior Advisor.
The Conference theme was “Education for Health.”
Professor Shanti Mendis said the Kandy Society of Medicine was established in 1964 and it had played a vital role in continuing medical education.
The programme this year was no exception. It included plenary sessions, symposiums, workshops and orations which targeted a wide array of medical topics.
She said the three day conference enhanced the knowledge and expertise of the medical professionals who participated.
Professor Mendis also said she was happy to see the growth of the Kandy Society of Medicine, as she was a past President.
The Kandy Teaching and General Hospital Director Dr. R.M..K. Rathnayake was the Guest of Honour at this Conference.
The Bibile Memorial Oration for 2020 was delivered by University of Peradeniya’s Faculty of Medicine Surgery Professor Prof. K.B.Galketiya on the topic “Learning and Teaching Minimal Access Surgery: Living through a Learning Curve.”
The Kandy Society of Medicine Oration 2020 was delivered by Dr. Sanath Thusa Kudagammana on “Pediatric Allergic Diseases in Sri Lanka: Unraveling the Uncertain and the Unknown.”
The Kandy Society of Medicine President Prof. Ratnayake M. Mudiyanse addressed the Conference as well. The two Joint Secretaries are Dr. Chathurange Keppetyagama and Dr. Duminda Yasaratne
