Launched for the first time back in 2018, the Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management at BCAS Campus stood out for its unique curriculum and hidden opportunities. Lilanthi Jayawardane, the Programme Manager of the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management at BCAS emphasized on what makes the programme special.

The diploma is accredited by the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka and assured by Pearson, UK. There is a wide range of opportunities hidden behind this very diploma that only spans for a duration of six months.

The curriculum consists of sixteen subjects in total which include three Management subjects; Marketing Management, Operation Management and, Human Resource Management. Students are therefore, not limited to the principles of Hotel and Tourism Management but get an overall understanding of the industry.

The course is however, a full-time programme in which students get six months of industrial training in four, and five-star hotels. BCAS provides foreign job opportunities in Maldives, Europe and the Middle East for students. They can directly apply for jobs overseas without having to work in Sri Lanka. BCAS would provide assistance despite what choice the students make regarding where they would want to work.

Students who are interested in continuing their studies after the diploma can opt to complete their Higher National Diploma (HND) or a degree programme in Hotel and Tourism Management overseas. Added to the benefits BCAS offers a part-time course of three months in English, French and Information Technology for students absolutely free of charge.

BCAS thus, ensures that students are prepared to face any challenge whether it is a foreign language or technology itself with confidence. There are also short-term courses for a duration of three to four months in House-keeping, International cookery, Food & Beverage and Front office. For students who are struggling financially, BCAS offers jobs in hotels or restaurants on a part-times basis after class. The abundance of opportunities paired with quality of education make BCAS a well-reputed campus in Sri Lanka.

“The specialty of the Hotel Management programme is that the students will receive two certificates; one from BCAS and the other from Pearson which means that the programme is recognized worldwide. The modules are taught on a practical basis. We bring industry experts and managers to explain to our students on how the hotel industry operates.”
