MAF plays a different role for Students
View(s):The Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) took a break from their music and artistic activities to embark on a most meaningful social responsibility project for school children in the cooler climes of Hatton. 
A very successful workshop titled ‘Leadership development and Drug prevention’ was carried out for 225 senior students from Highlands College, Hatton on 20th February 2020.This project was executed by the Forum, at the behest of the principal, Sridhar and sponsored by the ‘College 98 A/Level batch’ .
Lectures on Personal growth, Career planning, Effective communications and Healthy drug free living were delivered by MAF members Hiran Fernando, Lakdas Fernando and Erinton Perera.Psychological counsellor, Mrs. Kasturi Rajendram also addressed the students on behavioural patterns. At the conclusion of the project, the principal paid a tribute to MAF for the enthusiasm and interest shown towards this programme and travelling all the way to Hatton.
The workshop began with the welcome address by Krishna Kumar of the Highlands College 98 A/Level batch. MAF treasurer Laksiri Fernando spoke and explained that MAF is an organization of professionals, its activities diverse, and not solely limited to music and artistic fields .
The other MAF members involved were the initiator and coordinator of the project Priya Peiris, along with musicians cum singers Lincoln De Silva, Jagath Peiris, Lilanthi Jayaratne, Rita Bertus and Mrs. Lakdas Fernando.
Also joining in was Percival Fernando, responsible for the spade work for granting 20 scholarships to studious and deserving children from various other schools in Hatton, made possible through the blessings of MAF . ‘Special thanks are due to deputy principal Sugumar and very specially to Suresh Chetty, who did all the coordination to make this workshop possible along with his other dynamic batch mates – Ms. Jayanthini, Ms. Krishnawenni and Ms. Mydily’ said Priya Peiris.
