Overlooking Victoria: The Tamarind Gardens farm
On Saturday, March 14, Tamarind Gardens will hold a farmers’ market at their premises in Digana, Kandy, in collaboration with the Good Market vendors from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Launched in 2012, Tamarind Gardens run by husband and wife duo, Nalin and Ayesha Perera focuses on sustainability and being as green as possible. They run a dairy farm, also a homestay and facilitate women’s empowerment through Liya Diriya.
At the farmers market you will be able to find Tamarind Gardens’ dairy products such as cheese, clotted cream, butter as well as mouthwatering scones. In addition, their delicious Tamarind chutney as well as their new Tamarind Sorbet will be launched. Other vendors include Bread.lk, Rangala House offering everything from delicious cheeses to peanut butter.
The line up of events for the farmers market includes a sorbet demonstration, village cookery demonstration using organic vegetables from the vendors, beekeeping discussion and decorating cupcakes with children. There will also be a village style rice and curry lunch which requires prior bookings.
