Hasaranga out for six weeks, will miss England series
Spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was slated to make his Test debut against England but a hamstring injury he picked up during Friday’s Twenty20 match against West Indies means, his wait for Test debut will continue.
Hasaranga–one of the best young prospect injured his hamstring while fielding on Friday and did not return to bowl his quota of four overs against West Indies, which the tourist eased to victory with three overs to spare. He will be out for six weeks–a major blow for Sri Lanka ahead of the two-match Test series against England.
“He is out for at least six weeks,” said chief selector and team manager Ashantha de Mel.
“He has been performing really well for us during the series and we have included him in the squad for the Test series against England. But unfortunately he will have to sit out now.”
Meanwhile Kusal Perera who was hit on his right index finger while trying to gather a delivery by Lasith Malinga down the leg side in the first over of the Windies chase, is also likely to miss at least the opening Test starting March 19 in Galle. De Mel said his situation isn’t serious.
Sri Lanka won the ODI series against West Indies 3-0 but conceded the T20 series 2-0.
