Oxford House clinched the overall championship with a total of 910 points, Harvard became the runners-up and Cambridge secured the third place at the annual Inter-House Sports Meet of Sussex College, Horana.

The prize for the Best Hut was won by Oxford House at the meet held in a grand scale on February 18 at the college grounds under the patronage of chief guest Major General (Rtd) Anura Perera, Head of Administration and Premises of Sussex College Network.

The students proudly displayed their skills and talents through the band, various athletic events, drill competitions and the construction of elaborate house huts. The theme of the House Hut Competition this year was ‘Countries of the World”. Cambridge House chose India, Harvard chose Japan and Oxford built their hut to represent USA. Sussex Horana students are well known for their elaborate House Huts.

The students of the Sussex College presented Major General Anura Perera with a special plaque in order to thank and pay tribute to his 36 years of service eradicating the terrorism in the country and served the nation as a military officer in the Sri Lanka Army. In his address, the Chief Guest emphasised the importance of sports in the development of children because it gave them self-confidence and a sense of independence.

He praised the students and the teachers for their hard work in organising the sports meet and encouraged the parents to ensure that their children engage in sports activities from a young age. Former Sri Lanka pole vault record holder and South Asian Games Gold medallist Ruwan Pradeep Perera, the Deputy Head of Sports of the Sussex College Network, was the Guest of Honour while Hector Yapa, Principal of Sussex College, Ratnapura attended the function as the special invitee.
