Sri Lanka team leaves for Over-50s Cricket World Cup
The Sri Lanka team will leave today (March to compete at the second edition of the Over 50s Men’s Cricket World Cup to be held in South Africa from March 11 to 24.
Sri Lanka is in group ‘B’ along with Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, Canada and Zimbabwe in the 12-team competition. Group ‘A’ consists of England, India, Pakistan, Namibia, Wales and hosts South Africa.
The inaugural over 50′s World Cup was played in Australia in 2018 where Sri Lanka finished among the top five.
“We are looking forward to play our best and win the next World Cup which is to be staged in Sri Lanka in 2022,” said Mahes de Zoysa, Technical Director/ Assistant Manager of the team.
The Sri Lankans will open their campaign against Canada on March 11.
The team is led by former Peterite Senarath Seneviratne with Shane Fernando, a fine all rounder who played for SSC in the Division 1 club tournaments, being his deputy.
