Education Ministry aims for a thousand national schools
View(s):The Education Ministry is planning to establish 125 more national schools throughout the country, within this year.
The move is a part of a plan to increase the number of national schools from 373 to 1,000.
A senior Education Ministry official said a survey carried out revealed 134 divisional secretariat areas were not covered by a national school.
As a result there has always been a rush to admit students to national schools, the official said.
“Students who pass the scholarship examination are also in a rush to be selected to national schools, adding to the issue,” he said.
The objective of this plan was to reduce the pressure on existing national schools by introducing more national schools which would be better equipped and have enough staff.
He also said within the next two years they hoped to increase the number of national schools so they could reach the 1,000 national schools target.
