The Sri Dalada Maligawa has taken a number of precautionary methods to counter the COVID-19 virus, by installing wash basins at the entrance for visitors to wash their face and hands. Santisers too are in place for the use of devotees and visitors.

In addition the entire complex is being fumigated (both inside and outside) using aurveydic material made from recipes based on ancient Ola leaf inscriptions used for fumigation in ancient times.

A seven-day ‘pirith’ chanting ceremony  is also due to begin on Wednesday.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela in a statement to  the Sunday Times said the pirithceremony would be transmitted worldwide on its web.

He added that the time had come to spread the teachings of Buddha on the impermanence of all earthly things. He also praised Prince Charles for welcoming people with folded palms, indicating the good practices of the East.
